Solo adds plans, Samsung CLEO and Pearl 8130

Tagged Under :

Canadian wireless provider Solo Mobile on Thursday announced it is introducing four new voice plans and two new handsets to its line-up. The Bell sub-brand enhanced its Unbeatable and Solo in the City plans, giving users what it says is better value. It now waives the controversial System Access Fees and emergency 911 charges to new subscribers who sign up for a two-year contract. This represents a savings of about $8 CAD (about $6.75) per month. Four new plans include the $15 CAD ($12.66) Unbeatable plan that includes 50 minutes and 50 text messages per month, per-second billing, call waiting and three-way calling. For another $5, users can share minutes and get unlimited local and long-distance national calling as well as unlimited texting with up to four family members and friends.

Samsung Omnia i900

Tagged Under : , , ,

The Samsung Omnia is presented in an extremely sleek black gloss finish, and actually only measures in at 12.5mm thick.  The Samsung Omnia’s touch screen though is so rich, intense, and reactive, whilst the 3.2inch screen is hugely refreshing and actually enjoyable to use.

The camera, however, is the main highlight here. Its resolution is the main headline, a nice 5MP which is the highest resolution we’ve seen in a Windows Mobile device yet. It is a strong competitor and is better than the Apple iPhone 3G and HTC Touch Diamond in some respects but also loses in some.

Samsung VP-HMX 10

Tagged Under : , , ,

It deserves to be here all the same- it combines 720p HD resolution, a 10x optical zoom along with a touch screen LCD all for less than the price of the Canon.

Pretty much everything you need to get started is included in the box including a remote, though Samsung’s generosity runs out at the HDMI cable!

There are no tapes, DBDs or hard disks, just a tiny SD card. The stills resolution is pretty low at 3MP too, and even that’s interpolated. On the bright side, it’s got proper camcorder handling, made especially simple by the touch screen. So, if you have big pockets, traditional camcorder tastes and a penchant for a crisp video, the HMX10 is well worth checking out.

Samsung i780

Tagged Under : , ,

This phone although good looking and well built from front but has a cheap plastic rear cover that spoils first impression. For the rest its accessories are well built. Its got a decent screen, and based around Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The QWERTY keypad on the Samsung feels good to use and the keys are nicely beveled, if slightly close together, which makes typing longer emails easier.

On the multimedia front Samsung incorporates a 2 mega pixel camera- which is pretty much lame for cell phones & PDAs theses days. Our list of complaints & changes includes a slightly larger screen, better built body panels and a better software bundle. As it stands the phone is good, although a little overpriced for what it offers.

Samsung U900

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Samsung makes excellent sliders, Definitely true, if the U900 is any indication. Besides being very well built , slim and featuring a brushed metal body, the U900 has a lovely screen. It’s compact too, and very much for the college goer looking for something powerful and chic. The call accept/reject button are large, you could find them with your eyes closed. The keypad seems reminiscent of Motorola phones, some sort of a membrane based keypad that nonetheless works fine. The most innovative feature is incorporated into the menu button- there is none.

Samsung 5 megapixel camera is easy to use with good menus and option, although its camera isn’t as good as N95 or the N82. The only trick which Samsung missed is the presence of GPS and WLAN. The U900 is a good phone for something cute, hardly, yet functional. It hasn’t got the powerful convergence of features like N95 and N82, but it looks radically different and is flashy too, like the Viewty. Choose it over two Nokia’s above only if you don’t need the extra features they have!
