Canon upgrades two pro HDV camcorders

Canon today chose an unusual mid-day update to launch a pair of updates to its pro HDV tape camcorders. The XH A1S and XH G1S both have had their 20X zoom lenses upgraded to give better control over focus, irising and zoom as well as camera firmware that lets users adjust the zooming speed to deliver a more natural feel to pull-in or pull-out shots. Audio has also been given a boost with two XLR inputs at varying sensitivity, the ability to record with external and built-in mics at the same time, and overall better sound performance. Canon EOS 1000D

The 10MP beastly is just £500/$1000 for the body only and £580/$1160 with an 18-55mm image stabilizer lens, putting it in firm competition with the Olympus E-520, Sony A200 and the Nikon D60.

Competitive ground, but given that its brother, the EOS 450 D, won the Super-test in the July and now has a completely new lighter build and some exclusive features, we’re expecting great things from this bad boy!

Canon FS11

The prosaic styling gives it a dated appearance, but its diminutive stature and the fact that it records direct to 16GB built in storage or SD card remind us it’s no fossil.

Straight out of the box the Fs11 can shoot over 3.5 hours at maximum quality. You can also get a closer to the action to its whopping 37x optical zoom. It comes with everything you need to get started, including a wireless remote and software CD.

The FS11 is neat to use, too. The adjustable hand strap keeps it clamped to the inside of our palm, and the main mode dial and record button sit neatly under the thumb.

Being standard-definition, though, the Canon footage isn’t as sharp as that from the HD models. You won’t see difference on a normal TV, but it’ll be plain enough on any decent hi-def display

After a teaser ads canon has launched their Canon EOS 5D Marks II, successor to the EOS 5D. It is the First ever Full frame digital SLR with a 21MP sensor, 1080p HD video and ISO 25,600 equivalent headlines specs. 3.0″ LCD screen enhances the viewing. The latest DIGIC IV processor boosts the clicking and captures the moment in no time. Increased battery capacity and sensor dust reduction are some smart features.
