ASUS claims world’s fastest smartphone

ASUS  claimed a minor victory in smartphones with the launch of the P565. The Windows Mobile device uses an 800MHz Marvell processor that is said significantly faster than the roughly 600MHz chips used in better devices today. This helps multitask as well as crunching through particularly demanding tasks as much as two times faster, ASUS says. These tasks include graphics on the phone’s 480×640 touchscreen as well as recording and playing back MPEG-4 video. The phone carries other high-end features from ASUS’ smartphones, such as its HSPA-based 3G, three-megapixel rear and front VGA cameras, GPS and Wi-Fi. ASUS gives the phone its custom Glide interface for easier access to the home screen and other features using solely finger input, saving users from relying on the stylus input common to Windows Mobile phones.

As is common for ASUS launches, no release dates or pricing have been given for the P565, though in current form the device is most likely to ship for both the Taiwan area as well as other parts of Asia and Europe. The absence of the 850MHz band for either GSM or HSPA rules it out for most North American use.
