AT&T and Samsung have announced the availability of the new Samsung Epix smartphone.
This innovative smartphone packs in an advanced touch screen and new optical mouse technology, powered by AT&T’s 3G network. The Epix is available exclusively to AT&T customers in the US.
It’s the first ever phone to incorporate the optical mouse technology, the optical mouse is located in the center of the device between the right and left soft keys for quick and easy navigation just by sweep of a finger. It runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system. The optical mouse also lets you switch to the four-way key traditional navigation.
The sleek, stylish and compact Samsung Epix smartphone sports a cool silver finish. Its not just about looks, this computing, multimedia and entertainment powerhouse also packs in remarkable features including a 2.5-inch TFT color display, a 2.0 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth technology, stereo headset support, Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, microSD memory card slot up to 32GB, built-in 1800 mAh battery, built-in stylus, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) allowing access to more than 17,000 AT&T hot spots, built-in GPS for AT&T Navigator and other GPS applications, AT&T Video Share, full QWERTY keyboard and global capabilities. While abroad, the AT&T customers can make or receive a phone call in more than 200 countries as well as check e-mail, browse the Web or perform other data functions in about 150 countries.
Measuring 4.6 inches x 2.4 inches x 0.5 inches, it weighs just 4.4 ounces. The Microsoft Direct Push for corporate users offers access to multiple e-mail accounts while AT&T Xpress Mail includes access to major personal e-mail accounts.
It also supports Microsoft’s System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile and manages Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents, AT&T Mobile Music, Napster Mobile, XM Radio Mobile and more. The CV (Cellular Video) from AT&T lets you access several video clips of news, sports, weather, entertainment, premium HBO Mobile content etc. through its streaming video as well as access MobiTV.
Epix will use the AT&T Broadband Connect 3G network that is available in more than 320 major metropolitan areas in the US. The network’s HSPA-based technology lets the Epix users perform data functions as well as conduct a phone call at the same time. It can also connect with AT&T’s nationwide EDGE network.
The Samsung Epix phone will be available through select AT&T retail locations or at the AT&T website for $199.99Â with a two-year service agreement.
