Canon FS11

The prosaic styling gives it a dated appearance, but its diminutive stature and the fact that it records direct to 16GB built in storage or SD card remind us it’s no fossil.

Straight out of the box the Fs11 can shoot over 3.5 hours at maximum quality. You can also get a closer to the action to its whopping 37x optical zoom. It comes with everything you need to get started, including a wireless remote and software CD.

The FS11 is neat to use, too. The adjustable hand strap keeps it clamped to the inside of our palm, and the main mode dial and record button sit neatly under the thumb.

Being standard-definition, though, the Canon footage isn’t as sharp as that from the HD models. You won’t see difference on a normal TV, but it’ll be plain enough on any decent hi-def display
